About
The Yellow Coneflower is a perennial wildflower native to the Ozark region of Missouri and Arkansas, where it grows in sunny glades, prairies, savannas, and limestone outcrops. Its specialized habitat makes it vulnerable to development, fire suppression habitat encroachment, roadside maintenance, and collection from the wild.
Although it is not federally listed as endangered, it is considered imperiled in parts of its range and has experienced long-term population declines. The flowers of the Yellow Coneflower provide resources for bees, butterflies, and other insects, making the protection of its native habitat important for more than just the plant itself.
Protecting the Yellow Coneflower also means preserving the Ozark region and the countless other species that rely on this habitat for survival.
