About
The Bizarre-Nosed Chameleon is a small chameleon found only in the montane forests of northeastern Madagascar. Its name comes from the unusual, upturned projection on the nose of males, giving this species one of the most distinctive appearances among Madagascar’s chameleons.
This species is classified as critically endangered, largely because of its extremely small range and continuing loss of forest habitat. Deforestation caused by agriculture, logging, charcoal production, and grazing continues to threaten the forests the Bizarre-Nosed Chameleon depends on.
Protecting the Bizarre-Nosed Chameleon means protecting some of Madagascar’s remaining mountain forests and the many other species that share this fragile habitat.
